Yamabuki Williamstown

Review: Yamabuki - Williamstown

Japanese is one of our favourite Asian cuisines so we specifically sought out Yamabuki in Williamstown. In the suburbs choices are a bit thin on the ground but we are always hopeful when we find a place to dine in. Does Yamabuki deliver?

Well first things first and Yamabuki definitely has old school vibes. Not in a particularly cool retro way but more in a 1980-1990's Chinese restaurant kind of way. Nothing wrong with this of course - it just depends on what your own personal expectations or likes are.

Anyway, the 1980's vibes are definitely on offer and it's probably not really our kind of thing but really if the food tastes great and the service is good we can definitely let looks go the wayside.

Well, the 1980's vibes don't really go away with the food. I wouldn't say it is necessarily bad but neither is it exceptional.

Still if you are after some Japanese, Yamabuki isn't so bad.

I will say that that the meals are represented with that subtle understated Japanese style so you do at least feel that you are getting a Japanese experience.

We are suckers for sashimi so were happy to see this on the menu. In general terms this wasn't bad but was overly chilled to our liking.

To get into the Japanese spirit of things it was nice to see Japanese alcoholic beverages on the menu. Anywa, nice to drown our sorrows with some Japanese saki. I jest - it was all good.

Anyway, ultimately it was worth our while to visit Yamabuki as we'd always passed it by and were quite desperate to try it out. For a visitor to Williamstown we'd probably suggest going somewhere else but for locals who crave some Japanese it's still worth coming here once in a while to get your Japanese fix.

Location

Yamabuki: is located at 26 Ferguson St, Williamstown 3016 VIC.

In A Nutshell

Yamabuki is probably best for Williamstown locals who love Japanese cuisine and a desperate for their Japanese fix. For others Yamabuki may be a hard sell unless you are into old school 1980's vibes.
