Footscray is known by many and has what we could say is an interesting reputation. With it's close proximity to Melbourne CBD and home to many different migrants Footscray has a very diverse restaurant and bar scene.
Very very slowly there is some gentrification but it is slow and presently Footscray is a Vietnamese food haven, has a growing number of African styled restaurants and has more and more contemporary western bars and trendy places opening up.
Hawker favourite: If you love hawker styled dining then come to Footscray Market on a Saturday and seek out Huu Huu Thanh (a personal favourite).
Vietnamese with a difference: If you love Vietnamese but want something different then Anh Tuk is manages to be different, have fantastic food and offer superb value for money (another personal favourite).

Anh Tuk
Anh Tuk is now one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray. From generous portions to great tasting food to having a distinctive menu Anh Tuk comes as highly recommended. I'll definitely be coming back again!

Moon Dog Wild West
Moon Dog Brewery meets the wild west. Giant cacti, ride the bull arena, Mexican and western pub food, three level venue. Eccentric, loud, vibrant and making a statement in the West. Highly recommended if you love your pubs.

Huu Huu Thanh
It goes without saying that we highly recommend Huu Huu Thanh. A full and complete Vietnamese menu, a down to earth yet still decorative restaurant environment, fantastic flavoured food and a pumping vibrant atmosphere. Hawker styled food done fantastically.

Back Alley Sally's
Back Alley Sally's is probably missed out by visitors to Footscray who don't venture far from the main shopping and dining district. I believe Back Alley Sally's is definitely worth checking out as a great casual dining venue and meetup place to chat with friends. A nice relaxed feel and hipstery vibes make Back Alley Sally definitely recommended for those who appreciate the relaxed side of life.

Golden Horse Seafood & BBQ
Golden Horse Seafood and BBQ restaurant is a classic Cantonese styled restaurant. Enjoy authentic high quality Cantonese food the equal if not better than most in CBD Melbourne. We come here again and again for yum cha!

Olive Sourdough Bakery
Delicious and fantastic sourdough bread and pastries baked by the famous Noisette bakery. What's not to like. Recommended.

First Taste
First Taste restaurant is an adequate Cantonese styled restaurant. It's former claim to fame was it's specialty Cantonese soups that maintained an authentic flavour that tasted great. I am hoping they can return to their former glory days again.

Mami Ko
It's great to have a Filipino restaurant in Footscray but it just wasn't our cup of tea. Still if you crave some Filipino food this might fill the spot for you.

T. Cavallaro & Sons Pasticceria
T Cavallaro and Sons Pasticceria offers a view to a long gone Italian heritage in the heart of Footscray. Definitely worth a visit to consider buying some Italian coffee equipment or trying the ricotta cannoli from a recipe over 150 years old!

Roti Road
Roti Road is still a great Malaysian restaurant. Flavoursome food and lots of customers makes for a great environment.

Sapa Hills
Sapa Hills has stood the test of time. Still a trendy looking restaurant in Footscray it continues to deliver.

Hong Kong BBQ
The Hong Kong BBQ restaurant has gone from all time favourite to okay. Hong Kong BBQ has drastically reduced its menu to only BBQ'd Chinese food now. So yes you can continue to enjoy your favourite roast duck or roast pork but sadly the reduced menu is a bit of a let down. Still, if you love your roast duck it is perfect as a takeaway treat or you can still eat it there.

Reading Room Café
Off the beaten track for most people and only accessible on weekends for non-locals but well worth seeking out for fantastic quality brunch food.
