The Nigretta Falls are waterfalls a short detour from the Glenelg Highway at around 20km from Hamilton. The Nigretta Falls is a volcanic-based waterfall fed by the Wannon River that has its head waters in the Grampians mountains. Nigretta Falls are approximately 3Hr 45 Mins from Melbourne CBD or 319km and is close to the town of Hamilton. Nigretta Falls are 111km from Halls Gap should you be staying in the Grampians National Park.
The Nigretta Falls are quite a pretty waterfall. While on a international scale you probably wouldn't seek them out in the Victorian scheme of themes I definitely think they are worth a visit. I especially sought out these falls and still think it was worth the effort.
The Nigretta Falls walk is a 1km loop trail. I would consider than an easy walk although you do have to walk down into it and it takes approximately 17 minutes to complete.
The Nigretta Falls has a lookout point but is best ventured into to get a nicer view and make your visit worth the effort.
The Nigretta Falls are definitely worth the side trip from Grampians National Park if you are a waterfall completist. However I'd consider carefully on whether making the trip if I lived on the East side of Melbourne given the extra driving distance. I'm a nature junky so think it's worth the effort. Also, if you don't venture out to the west all that often I'd say try and cram as much hiking and seeing nature into your trip as possible. I also think the Nigretta Falls make a reasnably good picture as well.
