The Viewing Rock Lookout in Heathcote is a 2.9km walk overlooking Heathcote with an outstanding view and takes about 1 hour return. It is dry and quite barren and rocky and includes a bit of a climb so wear good footwear.
The Viewing Rock Outlook is in a dry scrubby and rocky landscape with no real cover from the sun. Although it is a short walk on a very hot and sunny day I suggest taking water, a good sunhat and wear plenty of suntan lotion. You are very exposed to the sun on this walk.
The Viewing Rock Lookout offers a great unobstructed view when you reach the summit. As a short walk while staying in Heathcote this is recommended as an additional walk to the Pink Cliffs walk. However in its own right I wouldn't really recommend this walk except for completist hikers or to fill in your time.
There is a picnic table on the walk for those who need a break or plan for a little pitstop while on the walk. At the base of the walk is the powder magazine that was built to store explosives in gold mining times and was away from Heathcote's town centre in case of accidental explosion.
Due to the dry and barren nature of this walk as well as having a moderate but noticeable incline this isn't really a beginners walk. Don't be tricked by its short distance into thinking it will be an easy walk. If you don't like climbs or it is a particularly hot day be adequately prepared.
