The orchard operates seasonally, opening its gates from November through May, aligning with the harvest periods of various fruits.

Visitors can enjoy picking cherries in November and December, stone fruits such as peaches, plums, nectarines, and apricots from December to February, and a variety of apples from March to May.

Pre-book your spot to avoid any disappointment: While you can just rock up to Payne's Orchards and hope they have space for you to pick your fruit they can get very busy and "pre-booking" is highly recommended. Otherwise entry is really just luck as fruit supply is strictly limited.

Payne's Orchards is praised for its friendly and helpful staff, who guide visitors through the picking process and ensure a pleasant experience. The fruit is noted for its exceptional quality and flavour, with many visitors highlighting the juiciness and taste of the produce.

We personally have only picked fruit when cherries and peaches were available. I have to say based on our single sample the cherries were fantastic as were the peaches. Picking "fresh" you really can taste the difference in firmness of the fruit plus the fruit are picked when they are ripe and ready rather than a bit green for the supermarkets.

As an experience picking the fresh fruit is quite a lovely activity and all the people are just so excited.

Fees and pricing: There is an entrance fee and you also pay for your fruit by the kilogram. Personally we find the pricing fair and appreciate able to have tree ripened fruit that is delicious and full of flavour as well as cutting out fees that go to predominantly Australia's supermarkets.

Entrance fees:

  • $5/person 12yrs+
  • $2 children 3-11yrs
