Ferntree Falls - Mt Buangor

Ferntree Falls Mt Buangor

The Ferntree Falls and Waterfalls Nature Walk starts at the Ferntree Camping ground at Mt Buangor and is 1km and takes approximately 45 minutes. While you can drive to the Ferntree Camping Ground in a sedan the road is only okay and I'd recommend an SUV is preferable. The earlier Middle Creek Camping area is much more suitable if you are driving in a sedan.

The Ferntree Falls and Waterfalls Nature Walk is a short walk but it still has ups and downs. The walk isn't necessarily the busiest walk ever so parts of the track may have a bit of bush overgrowth. A benefit of the relatively fewer walkers on this walk is that it is a lot more peaceful.

The Ferntree Falls can be described as pretty small. This isn't a giant cascading waterfall that has a thunderous roar as the water falls to the pool below. This is more of a meandering peaceful miniature waterfall akin to walking by the side of a stream. Yes, it is beautiful and surrounded by lush green ferns and bush but it is quite small.

The Ferntree Falls and Waterfall Nature walk begins with the Ferntree Falls near the beginning of the walk. This is great for those more interested in getting a picture of the waterfall than actually doing the walk itself.

Depending on the time of year you undertake the Ferntree Falls and Waterfall Nature walk you may be joined by lots of butterflies. This occurrence is quite common on many nature walks in Victoria but still adds to the enjoyment of the walk and makes you remember that you are surrounded by nature rather than having a latte in urban Melbourne.

The Ferntree Falls and Waterfall Nature walk is a nice addition to the other walks at Mt Buangor State Park as you get to enjoy the waterfalls and the lush green scenery near the falls contrasts against the granite boulders in other areas of the park and the more typical semi-forested landscape later on in this walk.

Continuing from Ferntree Falls the walk opens up to semi-covered forest of Stringybarks and Blue Gums. The forest provides relatively nice cover from the sun.

For such a short walk the Ferntree Falls and Waterfall Nature walk at Mt Buangor provides good diversity. You get to enjoy the Ferntree Falls, lush green bush and ferns and trickling stream at the beginning of the walk and then after that it turns into your more typical semi-forested bushwalk. The tracks semi unkempt nature adds to the enjoyment as you know that the track isn't as frequented as some other walks.
