Proximity to Colac: The Red Rock lookout, 12 km from Colac, is one of Australia’s youngest volcanoes.
The Red Rock lookout is perfect to add to a trip to the Great Ocean Road either on the way there or on the way back if you are looking for something new to see and do if you've travelled to the Great Ocean Road multiple times.
From Red Rock Lookout, you can see seven crater lakes and nearly 40 distinct eruption points within the Red Rock complex.
Scenery and Views: The Red Rock Lookout delivers on its promise of breathtaking views. Perched high above the surrounding landscape, it offers panoramic vistas of the rolling hills, lush greenery, and the distant mountains. On a clear day, the expansive views are truly awe-inspiring, making it an ideal spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Volcanoes: Once you are up here you can really appreciate the view and notice all the remnants of the ancient volcanoes. The now rolling hills have a certain majesty to them and really look quite beautiful. This is a great view of the Victorian countryside.
The area is the world's third-largest volcanic plain and is estimated to be around 8,000 years old. The volcanic complex features a variety of formations, including overlapping maars, scoria cones, and small lava flows.
Education: There are a number of information signs to help you better understand the regions volcanic history.
Accessibility and Facilities: The lookout is relatively easy to access, with well-maintained paths leading up to the viewing area. The short walk to the lookout is manageable for most fitness levels and provides a chance to enjoy the surrounding flora and fauna. Toilets, playground and BBQ facilities are available 500m before the lookout.

From Colac: Red Rock Lookout is a 17 minute drive from Colac town centre to Red Rock, Alvie VIC 3249.
From Werribee: Red Rock Lookout is a 1 hour 32 minutes drive from Werribee. A visit here is best ideally added to a trip you are already taking to Port Fairy, Warrnambool, Port Campbell. You could also add it to a trip back to Melbourne from Lorne although it will add a bit of extra time to your journey.
From Melbourne: Red Rock Lookout is just under 2 hours from Flinders Street Station.
