The Raglan Falls Walk from Richards campground at Mt Cole is a 1km or 30 minutes and 2km return or 1 hour. The walk is quite steep albeit a short walk. Don't expect a classic waterfall photograph of Raglan Falls. This is more a nature walk that contains a mainly hidden waterfall.
The Raglan Falls Walk can also be undertaken from the Mt Buangor side of the mountain from Middle Creek Camping Ground. This alternative walk is much longer at 11km and 3h 30m return.
You begin the Raglan Falls walk from Richards campground. Although the walk is short I wouldn't describe it as easy. The walk is quite steep so if you have poor knees hiking poles are recommended. The Richards campground is also a starting point to the Beerimpo 17km walk.
One distinguishing feature of the Raglan Falls walk are the tree ferns near the beginning of the walk. For some unknown reason I have some kind of affinity with tree ferns so whenever tree ferns are on a hike its an immediate plus point in favour of the walk.
The Raglan Falls walk has nice forest cover so you are pretty well protected from direct sunlight. No it's not total cover but its pretty good and the forest with the dappled light shining through is very nice.
As you ascend towards the Raglan Falls peak you will enjoy the sound of the trickling stream and Raglan Falls in the background. Words don't do it justice but if you can imagine a dense forest with a stream running beside it its kinda like that. That sound is just so calming and relaxing and a definite plus point in favour of this walk. Keep in mind the forest here is semi dense rather than dense.
Depending on luck or fortune you may encounter some fallen trees aong the walk. Fallen trees always make for a great photograph and also help provide a sense of scale and grandeur to the nature you are witnessing.
There are some nice views from the viewing platform at the top of Raglan Falls. The view isn't what I would describe as super spectacular. It's more quite good than amazing. However the view is still a nice reward for the climb to the top of Raglan Falls.
There is a reason you don't find spectacular images of Raglan Falls. They are hard to come by. I'm not even going to try and show an image here. Despite the lack of a great waterfall image I still enjoyed the walk to the top of Raglan Falls, the tranquil and serene sound of the falls in the background during the ascent and the reasonably good panoramic view from the top of the falls. If you treat the walk as more of a bushwalk than a waterfall walk you will be rewarded.
Location
The Richards campground at Mt Cole is approximately 180km-210km from Melbourne CBD depending on the road trip you choose to take and takes approximately 2h 30m.
A good place for a final pitstop, refuel and coffee is at Beaufort just before you make it to Mt Cole.
