Buda Historic Home and Garden is an authentic goldfields villa house and garden located in Castlemaine, Central Victoria. The villa was named after Budapest by its Hungarian owner, Ernest Leviny. Home to the creative Leviny family for 118 years, it houses their significant and intact collection of personal belongings, furniture and artworks.
This elegant historic home is surrounded by one of the most significant large 19th-century gardens still existing in Victoria and is accredited by Museums Australia.
On display are works by many prominent Australian artists, including Lionel Lindsay, Margaret Preston, Ursula Ridley Walker and M.J. McNally.
The house is surrounded by 3 acres of historic gardens, featuring outbuildings such as a significant Victorian-era Garden Pavilion and Bird Aviary.
Buda is renowned for its authenticity and preservation. The house's collection is regularly rotated and features themed exhibitions. The garden, ever-changing with the seasons, offers numerous points of interest throughout the year.
