Beauchamp Falls Great Ocean Road

Beauchamp Falls Great Ocean Road

Beauchamp Falls, nestled within the Great Otway National Park is a hidden gem that offers visitors a spectacular view of one of the region's most beautiful waterfalls. Tucked away north of the Great Ocean Road, close to the town of Beech Forest and not far from the majestic Californian Redwoods, this stunning waterfall offers breathtaking natural scenery on the walk itself and a beautiful waterfall at the trails end.

While requiring more effort to reach than say Hopetoun Falls, Beauchamp Falls is a superior walk and well worth your efforts if you've already madew your way to this region. Definitely add it to your travel itinerary.

Beauchamp Falls Carpark

The Beauchamp Falls carpark is quite large so it has plenty of car parks. Handy as it does get busy here. It also has picnic tables and toilets which is great as not every walk starting point offers these.

The Beauchamp Falls car park also offers a nice view of the surrounding countryside that is entirely different from the rainforest and Beauchamp Falls Waterfall itself that you will soon embark on. It's great to think about this contrast in scenery both before and after the walk to appreciate the nature you are witnessing.

Beauchamp Falls Walk

The Beauchamp Falls Walk is 2.5km return and takes between 1-2 hours depending on your walking pace, how many photo's you like to take and whether you are brave enough to go for a swim.

The Beauchamp Fall walk is one of the prettiest walks you are likely to encounter. If you love rainforest type walks with dense green scenery, tree ferns, the sound of running water from the Deppeler Creek as you walk to and from Beauchamp Falls and escaping the sun then this walk will be perfect.

The walk is very well maintained and signposted so it's pretty much impossible for you to get lost. Always a great thing for those a bit paranoid about getting lost and those with children. The walk also has a few seats along the way if you fell like a break and want to take in your surroundings.

There are some stretches along the walk where you get to walk in a straight line. Obviously not really a natural occurence but it makes for very pretty scenery.

The trickling sound fo Deppelers Creek as you walk really adds to the enjoyment of the experience. There is just something so calming hearing the sound of trickly water from the creek in the background as you continue the walk. Having the nearby creek also adds to the scenery from just a bushwalk.

The walk does have a descent (and ascent back up on the return journey) as you walk down to the base of Beauchamp Falls. So be prepared to walk both up and down and also take care on some of the stairways that do get slippery from the constant moisture and rain.

The Beauchamp Falls walk is so pretty that you should really take your time to soak up the environment you are walking in and appreciate the surroundings. The goal isn't just Beauchamp Falls themselves when you are walking in such a beautiful place.

Beauchamp Falls

Of course you will eventually reach Beauchamp Falls. As you walk you will notice that you can take a walk to your left down to the base of Beauchamp Falls (and also go for a swim) or keep heading straight on the main track. Assuming you first keep going straight the path will take you to a viewing platform which is at the right handside of the falls. It's a nice enough view and avoids having to walk on an unmanaged track but I suggest you do walk down to the base of the falls to get a better viewpoint.

Now head back to the path that takes you to the base of Beauchamp Falls. This is unmanaged so you will have to take greater care where you plant your feet and just how you walk in general. However, you are rewarded with superior waterfall views and of course can go for a swim as well.

After you've had your fill of Beauchamp Falls it's now time for your return journey. This is a one-way track so you will retread your steps all the way back to Beauchamp Falls carpark.

TIP: If you have children and can't handle a 1-2 hour walk then head to Hopetoun Falls with its 30 minute - 1 hour walk walk instead or have a picnic at The Redwoods Forest.
