Cleveland Estate is more than just a winery. While you can visit Cleveland Estate for simply a wine tasting, there is much much more especially if you want to treat yourself to a special weekend away.
Cleveland Estate Lancefield provides luxurious and cozy lodgings but also features peaceful vineyards, stunning scenery, and various amenities for guests, such as billiard tables and lounges. Wine Tasting: The winery boasts the region's sole underground Cellar Door making for a unique selling point and an experience slightly different from anywhere else.
The wine tasting area is pretty cool and makes for a great location to make an event of it with friends.
Especially if you haven't already shown photo's of the cellar door to your friends walking down into the cellar makes for quite the impression. The interior has a few curios to make the space a bit more interesting than just a tasting area.
Whether your preference lies with a robust Shiraz, a refreshing Chardonnay, or a bubbly Pinot Noir, Cleveland Estate's underground Cellar offers an extensive variety of local wines guaranteed to delight your palate, featuring Cleveland Estate's exclusive wines produced from their on-site Vineyard.
Restaurant: "The Carriage House" restaurant at Cleveland Estate Winery offers a dining experience that beautifully marries the elegance of fine dining with the warmth and comfort of a country estate. From the moment you arrive, the restaurant's ambiance, characterised by its rustic charm and sophisticated decor, sets the stage for a memorable meal.
The Carriage House restaurant at Cleveland Estate Winery has two quite distinctive menu's depending on when you dine. The lunch the menu is definitely more casual with quite an extensive wood-fired pizza menu, some other options and cheeseboards. This is great for catering for families especially with children and does help keep the bank balance in check.
However, not everyone is into pizza's so while there are a few other choices it might be best to check the menu before coming or consider staying for dinner instead for a more regular or typical evening menu. For non-pizzaa offerings expect anything from meatballs with woodfired bread, arancini with aioli or chunky chips. It goes without saying that the drinks menu includes many regional Macedon Ranges wines so even if you do not want to do a wine tasting you can still support the local wine makers.
The dinner menu is a 2 or 3 course set menu of which the selection is very good and quite varied for this type of menu. Due to the location of Cleveland Estate the dinner option is probably out for day trippers from Melbourne unless you live in the very outer west like Sunbury or Watergardens. However for weekend visitors to the region the dinner menu does look quite enticing.
There are nice expansive views of the Cleveland Estate vineyard if you manage to get in early.
The restaturant building is pretty cool looking especially from the outside so its worth going outside to the balcony to check out the views.
You can look out over the vineyard directly out from the balcony or head to the front and enjoy views similar to sitting at tables at the front of the restaurant.
Accommodation: The retreat boasts 50 contemporary guest suites situated beside Cleveland Estates historic 1880's Homestead, which itself offers six private accommodation suites, alongside a lounge and dining area.
Even if you are not staying at Cleveland Estate it is nice to walk around the grounds and accommodation just to satisfy your own interest.

Cleveland Estate is located at 55 Shannons Rd, Lancefield VIC 3435 around 1:10 from Melbourne CBD.
Cellar Door
Cleveland Estate boasts the region's sole underground Cellar Door, Cleveland Estate offers a distinctive and unforgettable experience for all who visit the Macedon Ranges.
The opening hours of the cellar door are:
- Friday: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
- Saturday: 11:00am - 7:00pm
- Sunday: 11:00am - 4:00pm
In A Nutshell
Cleveland Estate is an all encompassing venue with restaurant, wine-tasting, accommodation and corporate and wedding venue hire. We visit more from a wine tasting and dining viewpoint. As a wine-tasting venue I believe Cleveland Estate is pretty cool and definitely worth making the trip to see although when we visited we were the only people there. It therefore lacked a bit of a vibe but on the plus side I was able to have a good chat with the host because of this.
Due to it's location (it requires a bit of a special effort to get to Cleveland Estate) so I don't know how busy the cellar door is on a regular weekend. I suggest bringing a few of your friends with you to guarantee a good atmosphere at a wine-tasting and enjoy the rather cool environment.
We didn't stay for dinner but did have lunch at The Carriage Restaurant. I wouldn't say it was amazing but if you love wood-fired pizza you will definitely be happy and the wine list is extensive. It's great that they promote Macedon Range wineries. Book a table on a busy weekend to enjoy the best views at the front of the restaurant.
