Tipperary Springs to Bryce's Flat Daylesford

Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat Walk, Daylesford

The Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat (or vice versa) is 6.6km in length (3.3km one way) and takes approximately 2.5 hours (complete return walk) to complete. You can begin at either end but we suggest starting at the Tipperary Springs Picnic Area carpark as we think Bryces Flat makes for a nicer halfway point.

Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat Return Walk

You begin the walk at Tipperary Springs Picnic Area car park. From here cross the footbridge and you will encounter a sign which points the way to the Twin Bridges, Bryces Flat and Tipperary Spring. Follow the sign heading towards Bryces Flat.

Essentially you will be walking on the western bank of Sailors Creek on the Dry Diggings Track. The track is well maintained and easy to follow all the way to Bryces Flat. It's basically impossible to get lost which makes it great for novice walkers or those paranoid about getting lost.

The bush on both sides of the Dry Diggings Track is comprised of stringybark and box gum forest. It's not super dense and more semi covered but does offer some sun protection if it's a particularly sunny day.

Along the way you will get views of Sailors Creek down below. There are multiple opportunities to take photos of Sailors Creek but inevitably most will have semi-obstructed views with some of the taller trees partially obscuring the vistas. Still it is what nature provides and we must be thankful to enjoy the native surroundings.

Better photographic opportunities: If you are looking to get better photo's of Sailors Creek we suggest you do the Twin Bridges walk that offers superior views.

Just keep following the track. Much of the walk will look similar to this.

Although not common there are a few granite boulders along the way to briefly break up the walk and offer something a bit different.

Scenery wise nothing much changes as you continue on towards Bryces Flat and will continue to look like this for much of the way.

Intermittently you will still get views of Sailors Creek.

Eventually you'll reach Bryce's Flat that makes a perfect spot to have a break, have something to eat and take a few pictures.

Bryce's Flat is such a nice picturesque and relaxing spot and we think a much nicer halfway point for this walk (compared to starting the walk here and Tipperary Springs being the halfway point). If you have enough time take of your hiking boots and dip your feet into the cooling waters of Sailors Creek. You've earnt it!

The Trek Back: Although not particularly well signposted you have to cross Sailors Creek to begin the walk back to Tipperary Springs. Immediately across the creek you should encounter this sign.

This side of the track is part of the Great Dividing Trail so it might be of some personal satisfaction that you are walking some of this trail given how famous it is.

Eventually you'll come across the disused Mistletoe Mine (not pictured). This side of the track is more undulating that the other side of the track amd although it does have more ups and downs the walk still isn't particularly difficult. You'll continue to get intermittent views of Sailors Creek (usually partially obstructed) as you make it ever closer to Tipperary Springs.

In A Nutshell

The Tipperary Springs to Bryce's Flat return walk is a nice pleasant walk taking between 2-2.5 hours. It is well signposted except for having to cross the creek at Bryce's Flat and isn't challenging for even the most novice walkers (unless 6.6km is too far).
