Lake Elizabeth

Lake Elizabeth Bushwalking
Lake Elizabeth is a jewel of the Otways. Lake Elizabeth is located only 10 minutes drive from the town of Forrest or 2:20 from CBD, Melbourne.  Lake Elizabeth is very tranquil (if you avoid a public holiday) and very picturesque.  Its walking tracks should be near the top of every Victorian hit list and you should visit at least once in your lifetime if you are a Melbournian.

Lake Elizabeth
Tranquility
Discover the beauty of its calm waters punctuated by the trunks of dead trees, created when the valley was flooded more than 50 years ago. It really is quite unique and yes, very pretty.

Platypus can be found in the waters of the lake although you will have to wake up early or head out at dusk to catch a glimpse of them.  I've never seen them myself but neither have I arrived at dawn or dusk.  Maybe that's something I have to put on my bucket list.  To see them in nature really would be something special.

View of Lake Elizabeth

Lake Elizabeth is a rain forest experience not to be missed.  Oh, did I forget to mention has peaceful, beautiful and tranquil it is here.  Definitely a must see.

Nicely shaded in the summer months

It's basically a flat and easy walk around the lake so its accessible for all the family.  However, if you have any doubts do a bit of research before you go.

Because a lot of the Lake walk is covered under forest canopy it's a great walk on hot days or if you do not like direct sunlight.
