The Elphinstone Hotel, located at 14 Wright Street in Elphinstone, Victoria, is a quintessential country pub that offers a blend of traditional charm and modern hospitality.

Known affectionately as "The Elpho," this establishment has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors seeking a genuine Australian pub experience.

Upon entering, guests are greeted to a warm and inviting atmosphere, highlighted by rustic décor and friendly staff. Maybe the decor is a bit too generic or distinctive but its all nice enough and certainly not dowdy.

The beer garden, in particular, is a favorite during warmer months, offering a relaxed outdoor space to enjoy meals and drinks.

The hotel features a public bar, dining room, and a spacious beer garden, providing various settings to suit different preferences.

Specials Board: The Elphinstone Hotel has specials that change regularly.

Entrees and starters: The menu at The Elphinstone Hotel showcases classic pub fare with a contemporary twist. At least when we visited some entree offerings included:
Mains: The mains menu has a classic range of chicken paramgiana as well as a host of other select mains. When we visited some mains offerings included:

They also have an ever changing specials board. I have to admit that the menu is quite eclectic and that is a positive about the Elphinstone Hotel.
Conversely the presentation of the menu detracts from the dining experience. A small point, but when you visit, the menu feels underwhelming but when you review it back home (as I have done) suddenly you realise that the menu is really quite extensive.

Overall from our dining experience the food is okay but doesn't feel special in any way. You kind of just eat it and while nothing was bad (a good thing) the food just isn't memorable in any particular way. It kind of just does its job to fill you up.

The Local Touch: The hotel is also known for its selection of local beers and wines, allowing guests to savor regional flavours. We definitely appreciated the extensive wine menu and how it showcased local wineries. I love when eateries do this and this is definitely a plus point for the Elphinstone Hotel. The pricing of the wine also seemed great value too!

In terms of location, The Elphinstone Hotel is conveniently situated near the Calder Freeway, making it an accessible stop for travelers exploring central Victoria. Its proximity to attractions such as the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and local wineries adds to its appeal as a dining destination.

In A Nutshell
The Elphinstone Hotel is a nice country pub without ever feeling special in anyway. If it is convenient to where you are travelling or passing by it may well be worth it for you however in general terms it is not a pub we would make a special trip to. Your mileage may vary.
It's main plus points may be its location and the showcasing of local wines.
