Bukkertillible Cave Walk, Mt Buangor

Bukkertillible Cave Walk at Mt Buangor

The Bukkertillible Cave Walk is a 3.2km return walk from Middle Creek Camping Area and takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to complete. The Middle Creek Camping Area features a public shelter with a stone fireplace and non-flushing toilets. There are communal fireplaces and shared picnic tables throughout.

On this walk be prepared for lots of climbing as you ascend the mountain to Bukkertillible Cave. If you have poor knees this walk will not be the easiest so I would recommend hiking poles if this is you.

The Bukkertillible Cave Walk is notable for three main things. The first being the ascent and decline. Other than the starting point at Middle Creek Camping Area and a mild incline at the very beginning of the walk there really aren't any prolonged stretches of flat areas. This is nice if you get bored on flat walks but the downside is that there are not many super easy stretches during the walk.

The second notable thing about the Bukkertillible Cave Walk are the granite boulders along the walk. These make for some great photos and also make the walk standout from lots of other walks. The granite boulders are quite plentiful throughout the entire walk and are part of what makes the walk memorable.

The final notable thing about the Bukkertillible Cave Walk is of course the Bukkertillible Cave itself. Photos do not do justice to capturing the size of the cave. The Bukkertillible Cave is almost 100 metres wide and at its highest 15 metres high. Its not a cave that is particularly deep though so you don't really go down into it but its width is very impressive.

Overall the Bukkertillible Cave Walk is definitely one of the best short walks you can enjoy in Victoria. The Bukkertillible Cave itself at nearly 100m wide and the granite boulders throughout the walk make it standout from many other walks. For such a short walk it is quite challenging due to the mountain ascent and descent but all up it comes as highly recommended. A bonus of this walk is that just over 2 hours away from Melbourne CBD, the park isn't overcrowded.
