Twin Bridges Walk (Tipperary Springs, Daylesford)

Twin Bridges Tipperary Springs Walk Daylesford

The Twin Bridges Walk is 4.6km in length and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. The walk offers great views of Sailors Creek while having a easy walking difficulty level. Being only a 4 minute drive from Daylesford town centre to the walk starting point this walk is easily accessible.

You begin the walk at Tipperary Springs Picnic Area car park. From here cross the footbridge and you will encounter a sign which points the way to the Twin Bridges, Bryces Flat and Tipperary Spring. You may as well take the 30 second walk to Tipperary Spring while you at here. Not much to see and kind of in a state of disrepair.

Retrace your steps and begin the walk proper. You will make a turn westward and you will basically keep following this track continuously in a big loop. The track follows the bank of Sailors Creek from an elevated position. Anyway virtually straightaway you have a nice elevated view of Tipperary Spring.

WARNING: Thorny gorse: Unfortunately at the beginning of the walk both sides of the track are encroached by gorse (if you don't know what this is it is a thorny bush imported by early English settlers to use as a hedging plant). Anyway best to take your time due to the thorns and keep in mind if you have children.

It is worth noting that the Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flats walk manages to have no gorse if that is important to you.

The walk on the elevated bank above Sailors Creek has narrowish parts but in general terms is very easy to walk on. Generally the view down to Sailors Creek below is quite attractive and you have multiple opportunities to take photo's.

Depending on the time of year you complete your walk there maybe quite a few blackberry bushes you will encounter. These are much better managed than the gorse at the start of the walk and you shouldn't have much trouble avoiding any prickly bushes. If you walk in late January or February you will likely come across some ripe blackberries that will make a nice little snack. Just pay attention to any signage and warnings of use of any chemical sprays on the blackberries.

The walk itself albeit from an elevated position above Sailors Creek is pretty flat. Yes there are some small descents and ascents but generally there isn't anything too steep to tire you out or overly stress out your knees.

You aren't really directly covered by tree cover for lots of sections of the walk if it is a bright sunny day. If you anticipate a very hot day try and get the walk in early to avoid temperature extremes and harsh sunlight.

Given the walk is called Twin Bridges it is kind of mandatory to take photo's on the said bridges. Well keep your expectations in check as the bridges are definitely on the minute scale of large. In other words they are small!

Anyway, photo's on the bridges ticked off.

As you continue on there is a section where there is a granite cliff face. This is another opportunity to take a few photo's as the granite rocks offer up something a bit different.

The stand out attraction of this walk though rather than the bridges or the granite cliff face is the elevated views down to and across Sailors Creek. The views of Sailors Creek are much better on the Twin Bridges walk than the Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat return walk.

The best photographic opportunity is what I call Horseshoe Bend. No it's not Arizona but I still think it is appropriately named. This photo is what really makes this walk worth your while.

In A Nutshell

The Twin Bridges Walk starting at Tipperary Springs Picnic Area car park is a pretty easy walk that offers some excellent views of Sailors Creek. Despite the gorse at the start of the walk this walk is still highly recommended for its superior views of Sailors Creek compared to the neighbouring Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat walk.
