Clunes Creek Walk

Clunes Creek Walk

The Clunes Creek walk is accessible direct from Clunes town centre and it worth the short walking time for any first or only time visitor to Clunes.

Scenic Drive: If you choose to you can start your walk from the wooden tower like structure at Station Flat Road. From here if you decide not to do the Clunes Creek Walk you can alternatively take the scenic drive.

At only 2.1km and approximately 30 minutes walk time this walk is accessible to virtually everyone. While the walk doesn't offer any once in a life-time vistas or anything truly unique the walk is perfect to break up your journey, entertain any children you may have or just view more of Clunes if you are not a local.

Directions: Beginning at the Visitor Information Centre, this trail guides you through the historic streets of Clunes, featuring charming 19th-century buildings. Wander alongside the creek, passing Esmond Park and following the shaded banks of the waterway.

Take some time to explore the unique shops along Fraser Street, and stop by The Warehouse – Clunes Museum to delve even deeper into the rich history of the town.

Suspension Bridge: On the Clunes Creek Walk you will encounter a so-called suspension bridge. In reality it used to be a suspension bridge and now is a more modernly constructed bridge. Sadly the romanticism of walking a cross a swaying suspensio9n bridge is no more but all credit to the marketing department!

The Clunes Creek isn't particulary wide or deep but does offer some reasonably good views at differnt poi9nts along the walk.

A differing view: One thing about the walk is that at the least you do get a different perspective of Clunes compared to being right in the town centre. Also if you choose to do the scenic drive you can reach this point (see image below) to get a nice vista of Clunes.

The walk is well maintained and pretty much flat so even the less physical can complete the Clunes Creek walk with relative ease.

Information: Every now and then you'll encounter information plaques and boards along the walk to provide you with a bit of history of the area.

Location

Start walk at Scenic Drive: Port Philip Mine is an approximately 2 minute drive from Clunes Town Centre located at Port Phillip Mine Historic Site (former), Scenic Dr, Clunes VIC 3370.

Start walk from Information Centre: The Clunes information Centre is located at Clunes Tourist and Development Association, 36 Fraser St, Clunes VIC 3370.

In A Nutshell

Clunes is a small place so if you make the effort to visit here it is pretty much worth your while taking in all that Clunes has to offer.

For this reason while not spectacular or unique in any particular way we still recommend that you complete the short 30 minute 2.1km Clunes Creek walk and also take the scenic drive that starts at Port Philip Mine.
