The Sanitorium Lake is within the Macedon Ranges Regional Park. The Sanitorium Lake is a short 2.5km walk suitable for beginners and is definitely family friendly with some nice views of the lake with its sparkling reflections.
Sanitorium Lake is a pretty short walk and as such is great for those looking for something nice and easy and not very strenuous. A bonus of this walk is that the lake although very small is nice and sheltered that makes great reflections and is very photogenic.
The Sanitorium Lake walk doesn't contain any major ups and downs so is definitely family friendly. There are a number of signposts along the way outlining the history of the area and for those inquisitive makes the walk more interesting.
The Sanitorium Lake is quite sheltered from the sun so is suitable on bright sunny days. It's not toally undercover all of the time but generally is a good walk to do if you like being out of the sun.
There is a picnic area and public toilets making it very child friendly. As a small walk or a pitstop for a picnic or brunch the Sanitorium Lake is great. Personally I wouldn't come here specifically for Sanitorium Lake but as part of a day trip or to see other sites while at Mt Macedon then Sanitorium Lake makes much more sense.
