Golden Spring Jacksons Lookout Hepburn Springs

Golden Spring and Jacksons Lookout Hepburn Springs

Golden Spring and the walk to Jackson's Lookout is a pleasant walk in Hepburn Springs without really being exceptional in any particular way. If you are already in Hepburn Springs (as opposed to Daylesford) then this is literally a stones throw away and maybe worth your while as a short walk that also takes in access to the natural mineral spring water at Golden Spring.

Golden Spring

Golden Spring is only a five minute walk from the top of Golden Springs Avenue in Hepburn Springs or 180m. In other words it is very accessible although it does have quite a steep descent down to Golden Spring.

Of course it's all about the mineral spring water and the good news is that it is on tap for you to try although there are warnings as to water quality varying. Understandable as it's nature after all and subject to rainfall and general weather conditions.

The walk down to Golden Spring is steepish but as it's only 180m shouldn't be too much of a problem for most people. Just remember that you will have to return back up. The view down to Golden Springs basically looks just like this to your right.

Golden Spring to Jackson's Lookout

The walk from Golden Spring to Jackson's Lookout is 1.5km and approximately 30 minutes one way. Just remember that this isn't a loop track so it is 1 hour return.

Generally speaking the general landscape is kind of semi-barren with dry scrubby trees offering partial covering from sunlight but the sun will definitely beat down on you if it's a particularly hot day.

I wouldn't describe the scrubland as particularly picturesque but it is what it is I guess. Anyway, soon after the beginning of the walk you'll come across a small section of plantation pine trees. Although not native they do look rather nice albeit it's only a very small section of the walk.

Soon after you'll come across what is probably the most interesting part of the walk visually speaking. Essentially it is a bit of cliff face erosion beside the creek bed. Okay erosion probably isn't a great thing but it does make for some more interesting scenery.

Anyway here is another shot of the cliff face.

Much of the remaining scenery as you keep walking will look kinda like this. The walk will continue until you hit a crossing with a main road.

Once you cross the road you have the option to take a diversion to Hepburn Mineral Springs 1.3km or 20 minutes walk away or walk directly to Jackson's Lookout, about 2 minutes away.

Of course this walk is all about Jackson's Lookout. So it's great to reach Jackson's Lookout with anticipation of the view that you will enjoy.

However, arguably a better view than from Jackson's Lookout is just to the right of Jackson's Lookout from ground level.

Jackson's Lookout tower isn't particularly high but you will have to climb a number of steps so it will be best to take your time. I personally wouldn't call the view outstanding although it is nice enough. Is it worth your while only you can decide. However for those who love walking of course it's worth the effort.

In A Nutshell

The walk to Jackson's Lookout is ultimately more for completists than for a truly great walk or outstanding view. Still if you are already in Hepburn Springs it may make complete sense and if you have children the excitement of climbing to the top of Jackson Lookout adds special brownie points as cheap entertainment!
