The Slow Food Melbourne Farmers Market occurs twice a month albeit at different locations and dates. I ventured to the Slow Food Melbourne Farmers Market in Spotswood Kingsville and came away suitably impressed. I'd say the emphasis on 'Slow Food' is perhaps overdone but other than that this market comes as highly recommended.

On that front the definition of local produce (within 100 km's) is probably stretching the definition of 'local'. Keep in mind I am knitpicking here as to all intents and purposes the Slow Food Melbourne Farmers Market feels like it is in the country. No small feat and this is probably largely to the venue and abundanace of trees and being in a park. Quite an incredible feat to make it feel like the country and to be applauded.

There is plenty of 'locally' made artisan foods and I'd say that it is it's specialty followed by fresh produce of many types. It's definitely not a bric-a-brac market if that is your type of thing.

There of course are plenty of food establishments to get your coffee, pies, Spanish, pastries and more for the peckish.

It's a particularly family friendly market with a nice park area to walk within, a playground outside although I guess it might be challenged on a wet, wintery day.

There is a good variety of stalls here and it's large enough to keep you entertained and occupied and not thinking I've seen everything already.

The Slow Food Melbourne Farmers Market in Spotswood is now one of my favourite Melbourne city markets. It's definitely worth visiting atleast once if you live in the western suburbs even if you don't live close to Spotswood and Kingsville.
