The Phantom Falls hike is a 90 minute return walk, approximately 3.5 km in length. Lorne is approximately 2 Hr and 10 from Melbourne CBD. The Phantom Falls are one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Lorne and also one of the easiest to get to. Definitely add a walk to Phantom Falls to your must do list while in Lorne.
To get to the beginning of the track drive 10 minutes from Lorne up Allenvale Road until you reach the Allenvale Mill Picnic Grounds. Soon after starting the track you will cross the St George River and go around the edge of a private orchard.
Continue walking on the track along the edge of the river until it turns into a vehicle track. Eventually you’ll arrive at the top of Phantom Falls. Now descend down the stairs to the large pool at the bottom of the falls. Now start taking photos!
The Phantom Falls make spectacular viewing. Being in a semi-rainforest means the Phantom Falls don't run dry and you'll be guaranteed a great view regardless of how dry it has been.
As one of the most easily accessible waterfalls in Lorne I'd put this as the number one waterfall to visit if you are not a great bushwalker. It's an easy walk and you are rewarded with one of the prettiest wateralls in Victoria.
