Creswick is a small country Victorian town 122km from Melbourne or approximately 1h 35m. Creswick is home to St Georges Lake and one of the best Sunday markets in Victoria held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Make sure to time your trip to Creswick to co-incide with the Sunday Market because its just so pretty!
There are quite a few walks worth doing in Creswick with the Creswick Heritage walk recommended for those who like a longer walk and the St Georges Lake walk for the more casual walker.
St Georges Lake Walk
The St Georges Lake walk is a great short walk that still manages to be very picturesque and is suitable for walkers of all levels. With a distance of only 1.8km and taking 40 minutes St Georges Lake is a nice place to have a picnic and enjoy the very great scenery. If you are a daytripper to Creswick this is well worth the visit if you don't think you'll be coming back anytime soon.
Creswick Heritage Walk
The Creswick Heritage Walk in Creswick is a moderately challenging walk of 8.5km. This is a good walk for someone wanting a longish walk. The most scenic portion of the walk is at St Georges Lake while the La Gerche section of the contains some steeper up and down components. The steepest part of the walk is the section of the track joining the La Gerche Trail to the St Georges Lake via the Goldfields track. This is an open stretch on the walk on what looks like a four wheel drive track that is uphill (depending on the direction you walk the trail) and open to the sun that will be quite demanding on a 30+ degree day.
La Gerche Forest Walk
The La Gerche Forest walk is a 2km walk taking approximately 1 hour. This is a nice relatively easy walk. Predominantly under a forest canopy of native and introduced varieties. A great walk to learn about the forests history and poineering work on conservation.
Creswick Sunday Market
Creswick Sunday Market is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. This is one of the prettiest markets in all of Victoria. If you plan to visit Creswick do your planning and co-incide your visit with this market. Highly recommended.
Creswick Woollen Mills
Creswick Woollen Mills is well worth visiting on your Creswick visit. I know it probably doesn't sound like the most interesting place ever. However, if you do go there I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised and may even purchase an item or two. Best to come here in summer if you are looking for a bargain.
Location
The road trip to Creswick is approximately 125km from Melbourne CBD depending on the road trip you choose to take and takes approximately 1h 35m.
