Trentham Spudfest in Victoria

Trentham Spudfest, also known as The Great Trentham Spudfest, is a brilliant country Victoria festival celebrating potatoes, local produce, music, makers, markets and community spirit in the beautiful town of Trentham.

A potato festival with food, music, markets and country charm

Spudfest is one of those regional Victorian events that sounds quirky at first and then turns into an absolute gamechanger. Think famous Trentham potatoes, spud inspired dishes, local growers, artisan makers, music, family activities, heritage stories and a town that knows how to put on a full bodied autumn weekend.

The Trentham Spudfest is an annual favourite.

Why visit Trentham Spudfest?

The best thing about Spudfest is that it feels genuinely local. You can buy potatoes direct from growers, enjoy spud themed food, browse market stalls, listen to music and explore a town that has a lovely country Victoria feel. It is relaxed, tasty, family friendly and a golden excuse to visit the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region.

For me, this is the kind of day trip that ticks all the boxes. Food photography, country streets, local produce, happy kids, a bit of fresh air and enough potato temptation to make my weekday keto plan politely look the other way. Weekend off keto? At Spudfest? Surely that is just common sense.

Food lovers, this one is for you

Potatoes are the star, but the festival is also about regional produce, country hospitality and supporting local businesses. Grab something hot, buy fresh produce, browse the makers market and leave room for a proper Trentham cafe stop or pub meal. Monetization hook: book lunch, accommodation, cellar door visits and nearby experiences early if you are turning Spudfest into a weekend away.

I love a winery trip as much as anyone, especially if shiraz or grenache is involved, but Spudfest proves that regional Victoria has so many different flavours. This is less wine glass swirl and more crispy potato, market bag, live music and big country smile. Awesome.

Make a weekend of it

Trentham is close to Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Kyneton, Woodend and Macedon, so Spudfest is easy to turn into a mini country escape. Stay overnight, visit Trentham Falls, book a restaurant, plan a scenic drive and add a walk if the weather is kind. Bring the camera, because autumn in this part of Victoria can be beautiful.

My tip is to arrive early, check the official program, wear comfortable shoes and bring a tote bag for produce. If you are travelling with kids, set a meeting point, pack water and let them choose one spud treat. It is not quite a K-Pop concert, but the energy can still be next level when the town is buzzing.

Trivia: Trentham’s rich red volcanic soils have supported potato growing since the 1860s, which is why the humble spud has become such a famous part of the town’s identity.
