The Birdcage Altona Cafe is a bit off the beaten track so for many only the locals will have found it. So is it worth making that tiny little extra effort to go somewhere new?
Well, in our books it is a resounding, YES. The Birdcage Altona Cafe is a surprisingly great treat and a real surprise. Okay, we've spoilt it for you but if you live in Altona, Spotswood, Newport or Williamstown and want to try a new cafe then the Birdcage Altona Cafe should be near the top of your list.
The Birdcage Altona Cafe has nice modern contemporary decor with a semi-cool design. It's a bit crowded but you know a lot of thought has been put into the design. The exposed brick details and pretty little birds dotting the walls make for a bit of a statement and help make Birdcage Altona Cafe stand out from the crowd.
At the end of the day though, no matter how pretty a cafe is you have got to love the food. Thanksfully the Birdcage Altona Cafe really delivers. The food not only looks spectacular on the plate it tastes great too!
The Birdcage Altona Cafe has an extensive cafe brunch menu ranging from big breakfast, pancake stack, raspberry and cream cheese french toast, smoked salmon crumpets, samashed avo, Thai chilli beef scramble, bird cage benedict, croque madam, turkish eggs, pulled lamb salad, szechuan fried calamari salad, chicken taco salad, char siu pork belly, chicken quesadillas, middle eastern eggs, a range of burgers and more.
Yes the menu is very extensive and we like that they offer a few extra items not typical of your typical cafe menu. Definite browny points for that.
To top it off if you love wine with your meal then the Birdcage Altona Cafe offers wine by the glass or bottle with reds, whites, rose and sparkling availble!
Anyway, we just loved the food and the trendy vibe going on at Birdcage Altona Cafe. We love surprises and our experience here was definitely a huge positive surprise.

The words a hidden gem seem a bit of a cliché however I'd walked past Pier 71 multiple times thinking it looked average. Anyway, when we finally visited we had a great surprise to find something a bit special.

Tina's Dumpling House
Quality Chinese in the suburbs. Often times Chinese restaurants out of the CBD can be a bit average. We are happy to report that Tina's Dumplings bucks this trend and is pretty good and worthy of repeat visits. We like it!

It's a café serving excellent Japanese food a cut above the average and well above many in Melbourne CBD. It's small and pretty basic on the inside but the food is superb.

It's a chain store but that doesn't mean it can't be great. Yes, we love the vibes, the vibrant colours, fun and the food. Plus it's pretty good value as well.
