The Tessellated Pavement, consists of the tops of basalt columns ‘filed down’ by Jacksons Creek.

Rosette Rock: Is a radial array of basalt columns like the spokes of a wheel and is another highlight of Organ Pipes national Park.

You have to use a bit of your own imagination to appreciate the rosette construction but it is striking in it's own particular way.
Geological Features: The park's most iconic feature is the Organ Pipes rock formation, a stunning display of basalt columns created by volcanic activity millions of years ago. These columns, which resemble the pipes of a grand organ, are the result of lava flows that cooled and cracked in a distinctive pattern.

From Footscray: Organ Pipes National Park is a 29 minute drive from Footscray.
From Melbourne CBD: Organ Pipes National Park is 35 minutes drive from Flinders Street Station.
From Melton: Organ Pipes National Park is just 22 minutes drive from Melton.

TIP: If living far away we wouldn't make a special trip to Organ Pipes National Park. We suggest if you are interested, add a stop here on the way back from a trip to the Macedon Ranges.
