It is run by Moonee Valley City Council and it is a non ticketed event, which is a total gamechanger when you have kids who suddenly need snacks, shade, or a quick wander at random moments.
I would absolutely bring my two kids, aged ten and eight, because there are free kids activities and entertainment designed to keep little legs busy. Add some live music and dancing and you have that happy, communal buzz that reminds me of those moments when a crowd lifts together at a concert, like when Adele hits the chorus and everyone is suddenly best friends for three minutes.
Food wise, this is the kind of Keilor East festival where you can graze your way around and treat it like a long lunch on the move. I always say these local festivals are a GOAT way to support small business and community culture in the west, while also keeping the day easy and low stress.
My practical tip is to arrive early, park a little further out if it is busy, and walk in so you start the day calm. If you are bringing your own dog on other weekends, you already know I am biased because I have a Labrador called Tommy and I will talk to any fellow dog lover, anywhere, anytime. Even without Tommy, Centreway is a great spot for a family friendly Melbourne event because everything is close and the vibe is relaxed and welcoming.
