The Gamekeepers Secret Inn is a restaurant slash pub just outside of Melton that also is home to a once a month Sunday market (3rd Sunday of the month). There is a certain charm to its oldschoolness but it won't appeal to everyone.
The Gamekeepers Secret Inn is a pleasant old-school restaurant that appears to have seen better days. You could call it themed and I am fine with that and perhaps it doesn't need modernising as it would lose its character. However, The Gamekeepers Secret Inn exterior could do with a bit of upkeep, de-weeding and a paint job while retaining the charm of its interior.
The Gamekeepers Secret Inn is nicely decorated inside which I think is its appeal. The old tools, clothes, farming equipment and nic-nacks hanging on the walls are a definite point of interest and really stand out. Great for the kids if you are a first time visitor. The Gamekeepers Secret Inn has a steady stream of customers at least on the Sunday market day when we went. It has a nice family friendly atmosphere and all the customers seemed pretty happy to be there.
The Gamekeepers Secret Inn Market is moderately to very fairly priced. In other words it's good value. It has a wide selection on its menu including fresh baked loaves of bread through to burgers, risotto and pasta, selection of steaks, parmagiana, fish and chips, salt and pepper calamari and more. From this selection you can tell it has all the old-school classics covered.
The Gamekeepers Secret Inn's food is of good to excellent quality for its price. You should definitely come away pretty happy if you come here for lunch or dinner. For locals they have special deals during the week on certain nights so look out for those. For weekend trippers enjoy its old-school feel, moderate pricing and try to time your visit with the Sunday market.
